What you take into your mind and what you do in life is important. As a Christian, what you think about and the traditions that you accept into your life are very important. You might consider that the traditions and philosophies of man bear little meaning or fruit in your life. After all, you might reason, how can what has been going on for generations adversely affect me? You might reason that your religion and your heart are pure or that you believe that you are good enough exactly how you are.
Let's say that a dear friend routinely shared delicious homemade cookies with you. In fact, you regularly look forward to the special occasion when you taste those sumptuous cookies with a glass of cold milk. If your dear friend told you that the cookies had a special ingredient that made them special, you would probably assume the best and eagerly eat them. If you knew that even a small amount of dog waste was in the cookies, would you change your mind about those cookies?
Let's say that you enjoyed a glass of cold milk with those cookies. If that milk contained arsenic, it wouldn't kill you right away. Would you still drink the milk? In the same way you and I take life-sustaining food, contamination has very real effects, some of which you may not recognize for quite some time. In the same way, the Bible says that a little leaven ferments the entire lump. (Galatians 5:9; 1 Corinthians 5:7-9; Matthew 16:8-15) Discernment and accurate knowledge are needed to keep worldly leaven out of your life and more important than ever to keep you off the wide road leading to destruction that Jesus mentions in Matthew 7:13. Your relationship with God is at stake. That is the focus of this series on this website.
